New Years.

The last day of 2006 everyone! I have 3 new years resolutions for 2007 (putting them online is a good idea, now I might actually be able to find my list next year): 1. Be more passive (I get worked up too easily)
2. Read at least 20 non-school books (this seems low, but i really don't read as much as I should)
3. Enjoy 2007

I'm dressing up and going to see Rocky Horror Picture Show with a few friends, I'm excited.
Here are a few dumb things to do for New Years Eve:
1. Hold a piece of silver or gold at the stroke of midnight to bring good fortune
2. Bang bread on the walls to chase out bad luck and bring good spirits (Irish tradition)

3. Set off fireworks and bang pots and pans

4. Jump up and down so you grow tall (Philippines)

5. Eat 12 grapes [1 for each month] (In Spain)

6. Eat anything in the shape of a circle to bring wealth (the South)
7. or just get really shit faced.

Have a good one!
Lovingly yours, Cielle

Vánoce

I hope everyone had a nice Holiday. Here's a picture my brother's Czech host family from 4 years ago sent us. That carp is a Czech Christmas tradition.

We spent Christmas with my aunt, uncle, and grandma in Hilsborro this year. On the way up we stopped at a Burgerville and played "Gingerbread" by Frankie Avalon on a juke box, I wonder how many times that had been played on it. We had a traditional Christmas eve dinner of matzo balls and latkes, and watched Talledega Nights and Little Miss Sunshine. Christmas day was pretty low key and relaxing, I don't think I went outside once. In the way of presents, I did pretty well, some of my favorite things were a great new record player (my old one busted, the piece of shit, oh well, it was free) a tambourine, Treacherous Three and Girls in the Garage vol.11 records, A 250 GB hard drive, a neat Andy Warhol tote bag (perfect size for records), and a swell knit hat. The Holidays went by so fast, man!

Now I have the rest of my break, which seems to be going fairly quickly as well. There's a party I was invited to on Friday, but I'm not sure I want to be the only underclassman there. I was going to have a New Years Eve party with some friends, but now it might just be a January 4th party, so I might dress up and go to see the Rocky Horror picture show at the Avalon. Other than that, I don't have much to do over the break. Oh, and speaking of dressing up, I got this horrible dress for $3 at the Dig. It reminds me of a really poorly dressed Go-Go dancer. I like dressing up in it and playing the tambourine to the Girls in the Garage on my awesome retro record player.

P.S. OINK has a cool deal, where you can download all the shit you want, and it won't effect your ratio, I'm going hog wild!

Chrismas Baby!

So it's Christmas here at superloud, and I thought I would treat you all to a little Christmas music. I was going to do a Advent count down thing, but buy the time I actually was gonna blog about it, it would have been about 17 days of Christmas. I was thinking I would do 12 days of Christmas, But even that proved too much for me. So here, without a due, Cielle's 10 days of Christmas: http://ciellec.multiply.com/music/item/37
1. Santa Claus Is a Black Man - Akim & The Teddy Vann Production Company

2. It's Christmas Time - Yo La Tengo

3. Come On! Let's Boogey to the Elf Dance! - Sufjan Stevens

4. All The Right Reasons - Dressy Bessy

5. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer - Tiny Tim

6. Dear Scrooge - Lil' Hospital

7. One Christmas Catalogue - Captian Sensible

8. Just Like Christmas - Low

9. Christmas Isn't Safe for Animals - Of Montreal

10. Father Christmas - The Kinks

Two Christmas compilations I really like that you should look into are Cwistmas Twee (buy TGR Records) and A John Waters Christmas (amazing).
I have some 73 other Christmas songs, most of which I'm pretty proud of, so If you want some more, let me know.

Happy Holidays everyone!

No slinging in schools

It's Thanksgiving tomorrow, and I have four days of unadulterated break (5 if you count skipping school today).

So I've been noticing that Beck's marketing image (i.e. website, packaging, image as a whole) is very cool. If you haven't seen the website, you really need to see it: http://www.beck.com/. And the whole packaging for The Information, was the greatest, and really sort of brilliant. The only reason I bought it was to get those awesome stickers! And let me tell you, it was worth it. He was also in the September '06 wired "The Rebirth of Music", which, despite getting a few geeks panties in a wad, was pretty cool.

Also, I recently got invited to Oink's pink palace, but I'm a little behind the times when it comes to torrents. So it any of the 6 people who read this blog, have an opinion on a good torrent site, then let me know. If you do, I'll invite you to Oink's. Sound fair?

Lovingly yours, Cielle

Not only does he make gorgeous music, but he seems like a very nice person, he even signed my library card for me.

2) Demetri Martin
Tells funny jokes, and looks damn good in a suit.

3) Jona Becholt, aka Y.A.C.H.T
Extremely creative, and excellent live.

4) Bruce Springsteen
This one is a no brainier..

5) Sacha Baron Conen
How could you not love that?

Is it just me, or do all of there guys look similar (except maybe #5)?

Aretha Franklin's strawberry roller coaster

So a few weeks ago, I had a dream that I think is blog worthy. So here's what went down in my head:
I was worried about a trip to Chile that I was supposed to go on, so I decided to bring my friend Kailey with me. At the last moment we decided that Chile was not our thing, so we decided to go on a big road trip instead. So we were driving along, and I spot a theme park. After a lot of sweat talking I convince Kailey to go, but "only ONE ride"! Of course, I chose Aretha Franklin's strawberry roller coaster. Off we go, up and down on strawberry hills, and the big finale at the end, a careening drop into a giant Aretha Franklin's mouth. Once inside her head we hear a voice "I'm gunna eat you, I'm hungry" It turns out, it is the Aretha Franklin, and she is very hungry. I point out to her that we had just fallen in her mouth and that she, in fact, had eaten us. She sees my point, and we go run around the amusement park together. Pretty sweet huh?

Andrew Bird @ The W.O.W

This Tuesday I went to the Andrew Bird show at the W.O.W Hall in Eugene. I have to say, it was one of the best shows I have seen there.
Before the show we hung out at my brother's new apartment. He gave me a Bruce Springsteen record, A Jonathan Richman record, a smashed penny from the Grand Cooley dam, and his roommate Josh gave me some neat paper things he had got in Taiwan, for which I left a thank you note on the back of a fortune that said "you are a happy man".
So the show was good. I met my friend Laura and her friend, I forget his name but he was totally rocking a neck beard. The warm up bands were both really good. Dosh, who kind of reminded me of Yacht. Cass McCombs were really good, despite their first song, which had a crazy metal lick. While they were playing, I asked Andrew to sign my library card, and I kind of made an ass out of myself because I was shaking when he handed me the cap to my pen. He played most of my favorite songs, the only one I really wanted to hear that he didn't do was Masterfade. Here are a few of my favorites from Andrew Bird & the Mysterious Production of Eggs.
